something interesting i noticed about evanescence...

i was thinking about this last night but i was way too tired to get it all typed out. so, back in the early days of evanescence (fallen and before), ben moody was in the band and he wrote songs and even wrote the piano part for some. a couple of years ago i started noticing the difference between his piano playing style and amy's, but i couldn't figure out how to really describe it until i just figured it out last night. ben plays piano like how he plays guitar and amy plays piano like how she sings.

okay so for example, ben wrote my immortal. the piano in that is very reliant on chords but gets a little more interesting in the solo but not too out there which reflects how he wanted a more commercial and radio friendly sound. his guitar playing is pretty much like this too. for example, in going under you hear his reliance on power chords and there's a pretty cool solo in the bridge, and overall it sounds interesting enough for a wide audience to enjoy it and it doesn't do anything too wild.

amy on the other hand... she goes CRAZY with it. (this is where things get a little harder for me to explain so bear with me) when she sings she tends to stick to her higher register (btw her lower register is amazing and beautiful and sadly so underused) and on piano she tends to stick to the higher side as well. she also does all this cool shit with her voice like she'll switch between her chest/head/falsetto so easily and she does cool runs and just experiments and plays around with her voice and her piano style mirrors that so well. best examples for both vocals and piano are your star and together again and if you want more cool shit she does with her voice then check out take cover; the brige in that song is SO COOL.

jeez when i talk about amy i sound like one of those swifties that will call taylor a genius for literally anything lmao. anyway, that's just something cool i picked up on :3
