i'm thinking about changing the name of this site. "stuck in 2003" just doesn't feel like it fits in to what i wanted out of this place anymore. i don't really want to regress back into the old web fully, it was hostile and i've heard plenty of horror stories of people finding the most vile disgusting shit as a kid due to how unchecked everything was. i just want a decentralized web with less corporate bullshit and nobody trying to steal and sell my data. i do like the look of a lot of those old web personal sites which have obviously influenced my sites layout (the layout is not changing anytime soon btw, dont worry!), but wanting a "total old web experience" just doesn't sound right. i don't want to have this for nostalgia reasons anymore (hell i wasn't even online in the old web days what nostalgia do i even have???). it's fun to look back at what the net used to be, but i feel like it's being viewed through rose-tinted glasses. i would like to bring back how fun and personal the internet used to be, but instead of going back, i want to go forward.
there are good and bad things about web 1.0 and web 2.0, and i think we could absolutely learn from both time periods and create something better and more enjoyable. back then we had more web personalization, anonymity, and lack of algorithms and data harvesting, but in the modern day we have better content moderation, easier ways to report people doing horrible shit, better ways to find and spread information, art, ideas, etc. and more safe spaces for minority groups. ive seen people on here (including me at one point) completely disregard the current web as a total hellscape with no good things ever, and that's not as true as you'd think. sure, the current state of the web is scary, but like i mentioned, theres good things we can and should keep with us while we're striving for a better internet.
to be "stuck in 2003" to me now means that i'm not progressing or learning or taking what great things we have today into consideration. i do not want this. therefore, a name change will happen very soon if not today. if you have any ideas for a new name, please let me know, i can absolutely use the help haha.
UPDATE: i can't believe i didn't think of it earlier, it's literally how i chose my internet alias: malice in wonderland. i got it from this dress amy lee made that had horrible things said to and about her written all over it and the words "I WILL END YOU" at the bottom of it. it's one of my favorite dresses of hers and with the amount of shit i've seen said about her to this day and how she handles it, it still holds up. this is sort of an evanescence fan site in a way; i have fanart posted, nearly 200 evanescence graphics in my collection page, and an entire eshrine dedicated to them. it's still definitely a personal site first and foremost, so i figured a subtle evanescence reference would be a fitting title for the site. by the time you're reading this i probably already finished retitling everything. if thats not the case, then check back in a bit :)
